Boston could see tomato illnesses grow

Health officials are warning that the number of Massachusetts residents struck ill by tomato-borne salmonella is likely to grow in coming days.

“The number may well grow higher than 12 because some could still be in the incubation stage,” which lasts from 12 hours to a week, said Dr. Bela Matyas, medical director of the state Department of Public Health’s epidemiology program.
